Overview

Savannah River Mission Completion, LLC (SRMC) is seeking a Director, Environmental and Waste Disposal Authority to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site (SRS).

 

The Director, Environmental and Waste Disposal Authority is responsible for the environmental compliance, disposal and closure regulatory documentation activities and waste characterization technical activities for the Liquid Waste mission.  Supports field implementation of SRS Manual 3Q environmental requirements and associated DOE directives,  implementation and support of the DOE O 435.1 and DOE M 435.1-1 Performance Assessments (PAs), Composite Analysis (CA) and Special Analyses (SAs) for SRMC as well as implementation and support of DOE and state closure documentation for the liquid waste tanks.  Responsible for the activities associated with the Ronald W. Reagan National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2005 (NDAA) for tank closure and salt waste disposal, and for SRMC waste characterization and transportation/ packaging activities to support on-going company waste management efforts.  Responsible for managerial oversight of the support activities and personnel for these programs

 

Responsibilities

Environmental compliance:

  • Ensures SRMC compliance with applicable Department of Energy (DOE) and SRS environmental requirements
  • Supports facility Environmental Compliance Authorities with day-to-day issues as necessary
  • Interfaces with facility operations personnel to ensure that SRMC mission needs are met while continuing to meet all applicable environmental regulations in the most practical and economic means possible

Closure and Disposal Assessment functions:

  • Leads and/or develops, maintains, and revises DOE M 435.1-1 Performance Assessments (PAs) and Special Analyses (SAs) for FTF, HTF, and SDF and supporting R&D activities, annual reports, maintenance plans and Unreviewed Waste Management Question Evaluations
  • Develops, maintains, and revises DOE M 435.1-1 Composite Analysis (CA) and SAs for entire SRS
  • Provides technical support for NRC Monitoring activities

Closure and Disposal Determination functions:

  • Leads, develops and supports field input/implementation of closure and disposal regulatory documents associated with NDAA Section 3116, DOE M 435.1-1 and state regulations
  • Responsible for interface with Nuclear Regulatory Commission in support of NDAA Section 3116
  • Closely interfaces with operational facility staff to ensure streamlined regulatory document development and field implementation

Waste Characterization and Transportation/Packaging functions:

  • Subject Matter Experts supporting characterization and field programmatic activities for all radiological and non-radiological waste types
  • Leads waste stream profile technical documentation development and revisions and prepares modeling to support Waste Certification Plans
  • Interfaces with SRNS Solid Waste Engineering to resolve technical questions concerning waste stream profiles, calculations, transportation, packaging and procedures
  • Serves as Designated Employee Representative under Department of Transportation regulations
  • Provides management leadership for staffing, funding, schedules and support of senior management initiatives in areas of department responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering or related science and experience working in Department of Energy and national environmental compliance including DOE O 435.1 PA programs

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience working with DOE O 435.1 PA programs.
  • 5+ years of experience working with DOE and national environmental compliance
  • MS in Engineering or related science
  • Experience in DOE waste disposal activities and facilities
  • Experience in DOE facility closure activities including PAs, SAs and state and DOE documents
  • Experience interfacing with DOE, DOE-HQ, affected state and contractor personnel on regulatory issues and requirements

Minimum Pay

USD $168,000.00/Yr.

Maximum Pay

USD $295,000.00/Yr.
